After having had to postpone our entire 2009-2010 season because of the global financial situation, we are extremely pleased to announce our return to production for the 2010-2011 season, made possible in large part by a generous grant from the City of Ottawa. Make plans to attend our performances, and spread the word to your friends! And thank you for your patience!
Gian Carlo Menotti's The Telephone and Georg Philipp Telemann's The Canary Cantata, 8:00 PM on March 11 & 12, 2011, at St. Matthias Anglican Church, 555 Parkdale Ave., Ottawa
Menotti's sparkling, timeless story of Lucy's penchant for communication leading to a lack of communication with her lover, paired with Telemann's touching (and comic...) tribute to a fallen master of song, with it's surprising revelation of "murder"! Featuring OPO regular soprano Nadia Petrella and the OPO début of baritone Mark Gough, known to Ottawa audiences through his appearances with Opera Lyra Ottawa and Pellegrini Opera. Also on the program: Salieri's delightful miniature Little Harlequinade along with staged arias and duets. Ticket Information
Ruggero Leoncavallo's I pagliacci and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Bastien and Bastienne, 8:00 PM on June 10 & 11, 2011
Leoncavallo's incomparable tale of love, jealousy, and betrayal within a group of travelling performers, which includes on eof the most recognizable airs in all of opera, "Vesti la giubba", made famous first by Caruso. Paired with Mozart's charming pastoral story of two young innocents guided through their first encounter with Cupid by a wise and kindly wizard. Featuring the return to OPO of bass-baritone Gregory Sheppard as "Tonio" in I pagliacci and the wizard "Colas" in the Mozart.
