Nick Rodgerson - piano
is currently completing a Master’s in Piano Performance at the University of Ottawa with professors Stéphane Lemelin and David Jalbert. Prior to that he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Piano Performance as a student of Professors Lynn Stodola and Peter Allen at Dalhousie University, receiving the 2005 university medal in music upon graduation. Nick enjoys performing in solo recitals and working with other musicians in chamber and orchestral settings. He was a student with a variety of teachers at the 2007 Paris International Summer Sessions for a week in July. Past solo concerto performances include works by Rachmaninoff, Chopin, Prokofiev, and Ravel. As an orchestral pianist, Nick has participated in several performances including Respighi’s Pines of Rome and Fountains of Rome, Lutosławski’s Postludes for Orchestra, and Shostakovich’s Symphonies No.1 and 5, with Symphony Nova Scotia and conductor Bernhard Gueller. Most recently, Nick joined the Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra for Stravinsky’s Oiseau de Feu with the Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra and conductor Dinuk Wijeratne; which was recorded live and broadcast on CBC in June. At the 2007 Scotia Festival of Music, he played Celesta in George Crumb’s Night Music I with Guy Few, Beverly Johnston, and Mark Duggan, which was also recorded by CBC for later broadcast. As a chamber musician, Nick has participated in the Scotia Festival of Music in Halifax, the Tuckamore Festiaval in Saint John’s, and the Toronto Summer Music Academy working with fine young artists from across the country and abroad, as well as receiving instruction from a variety of acclaimed musicians.
