Mark Gough

Mark Ellis Gough - baritone

Mark Gough is a young lyric Baritone from the small town of Mount Brydges, Ontario. His voice has been described as “clear as steel” by Stephen Pederson of the Halifax Chronicle Herald. Having recently completed his studies at the University of Western Ontario he is beginning to move into the realm of professional singing. Mr. Gough has studied in the studios of Torin Chiles, Theodore Baerg, and Todd Wieczorek. Mr. Gough received his Bachelor of Musical Arts and an Artist Diploma from the Don Wright Faculty of Music in 2007. He has participated in several extra-curricular training programs including the prestigious Opera NuoVA in Edmonton. He received training from John Fanning, Allan Monk, and Stuart Hamilton. Mr. Gough participated in contemporary operas such as Sussanah by Carlisle Floyd and A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Benjamin Britten. He made his European debut in the summer of 2009 as Calchas in Offenbach’s la Belle Hélène. He has been seen by audiences in Toronto in Opera York’s production of Rigoletto with Sabatino Vacca conducting. In Opera Lyra Ottawa’s last season he premiered the role of the Donkey in Dean Burry’s commissioned opera The Bremen Town Musicians. Most recently he performed the role of Achilla in Handel’s Giulio Cesare with Orchestra London under Maestro Timothy Vernon and again in Sulmona, Italy with Kevin Mallon and the Aradia Ensemble.
